Make a 1000w equiv. LED flashlight – aka Do It Yourself Sun-Blaster!

It’s created to be operated with just one hand, with easy control of brightness, and can be powered by either batteries or an AC adapter.

Can be built for around ₤ 25 if you get the CPU cooler for cheap.

If you attempt this job you do so at your own threat. I presume no obligation for any injuries or damages triggered to people or home during its construction or use.

I have actually made sure in making sure the info in this video is accurate. Nevertheless, I am unable to offer any service warranty concerning the precision or efficiency of any details included in the video.

As you are in England it is a torch not flashlight and the uk term anticlockwise not counter cloclockwise should be used.

For outdoor use, wouldn’t it be good to surround the frame with a thin wall to prevent massive water intake and all as well as help to guard the circuit?

Do you know how much this weighs? Maybe bereft the frame? I’m wanting to make a few and mount them in a gigantic softbox for lighting cars. This would require me to hang them and I’m trying to make the rig mobile with a light weight deconstruct-able truss.

u dont need to worry about IC backside touching and shorting because of the heatsink
the backside of the IC is meant to be attached to heatsink, not as electric conductor

I’m just starting in electronic and I have a problem with the project. The led starts flashing if the dimmer is too high. Is it some sort of protection for overheating? Any way to solve the problem?? Thanks for that great tutorial by the way!!!

I want 6 of something like this…I’m in the process of tinkering now…2 each for the front/back of the house and one for each side all wirelessly controlled by one central unit (rf and/or Bluetooth) to be constant on, synchronized strobe, and individual on/off/effect control of each unit separately so I can light up the yard at 2am like it’s 12noon on demand! …I’d also like a fairly fast chasing effect SO I can make the house look like a UFO about to take off, just for fun and possibly an additional option for PIR triggered security (add on switches) so depending on the effect being lit I can know immediately where the motion was sensed/triggered ….fairly big, long term and hair tearing project so far….can’t wait for all my testing to be done SO I can build the final ones to mount on the roof! ….it’s one of those projects that you want really REALLY bad…but you have to walk away from quite frequently in order to not take a sledgehammer to what you’re working on haha

You did not source the female round connector for the power supply. If I get a 7.4mm (OD)/5mm (IN) round connector for a Dell AC adapter will it show positive and negative on the connector for proper connection?

Nick Pintelon
July 12, 2017

hi matt and other diy’ers. I just made the sun-blaster myself and have some things to say for when you want to make this foro yourself (these are things i have come across while building) .
first of all: when bending the aluminium profiles, you must heat them up with a flame, otherwise they crack( happend to me)
second: the new heatsink that is linked does not have a apropriot bracket to mount to the aluminium, you have to buy a separet bracket.
and last: mounting the regulator to the side without desoledering the capacators and the heatsinks from the regulator works fine, it stays cool enough
it was a very nice project to make! thanks diy perks for making the tutorial, keep it up!
greetings from belgium
